From "Tomorrow" and back to plus thirty years, more precisely in 1987, a teenager named Thomas, Thomas Barnett the full name, released the track "I Can Feel It" mixed by Juan Atkins, one of the first mix by who became the main DJ and producer from Thomas's hometown, Detroit. Today "I Can Feel It" is a very hard to find record that finally will be available for an official reissue via Omaggio, after a skillful re-master from the original source by Andy Toth former member of Detroit Grand Pubahs.
The 20th release on Spazio Disponibile - the Rome based label curated by Donato Dozzy and Neel - comes from deep techno pioneer Mike Parker. His second solo outing on the label includes five tracks of warping hypnotism, experimenting with half-time tempo's and spacious rhythms.
2 years ago the track "Still Numbers" on Ekin Fil's album Heavy caught the attention of a certain Richard D. James, who under his 'user18081971' username reposted the track to his now historic Soundcloud dump. This is also how Ekin's work initially caught the labels attention; at first listen it sounded like a unearthed Grouper demo, a parallel that can be drawn respectfully, seeing Ekin's trade marks are also those forlorn, muffled vocal whispers, layered under sentimental tape loops, paired with ambiance and feedback. The album itself was originally produced in 5 years ago during what Ekin Fil recalls as a down right depressing and tumultuous time during which she turned to music as a measure of rehabilitation. Heavy was later released on tape via Lee Nobles' No Kings label in 2016 and remastered in 2018 from the tape rips by Rashad Backer, preserving the fragile and heavy hearted auditory sensibility found in the original work, while making one of Ekin's earliest and most personally endearing releases available to a new audience of listeners.
R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings pays homage to An Alien Recordings, the 90’s (and recently re-vived) UK Electro/Breakbeat label run by Andy Panayi and Alec Stone of A2. The compilation features tracks from label mainstays A2, Stopouts and Andy Panayi himself.
Across his EP, Ricardo plays with varying textures and arrangements that in turn provide a cross-section of his sound that has expanded and developed over time. 'After The Movie' presents the experimental ambience synonymous with his early works. Stepping up on the remix is Plaid, a pair whose names are etched into the history of UK electronic music. Reworking title track 'After The Movie', they produce an emotive, soundscape complete with droning basslines and ex-terrestrial flourishes.
